A Relationship Death Poem
because in times of stress
one has to fall back on what one knows
and everyone could use a little death
now and again.
A Relationship Death Poem
that’s not really a poem at all
but an exercise in self-soothing behavior.
A Relationship Death Poem
because I like it dark
and all this damned light is giving me a headache
and besides a shelf life is preferable to eternity.
A Relationship Death Poem
that’s not really about death or relationships at all
but proof I am still who I am.

Glad to have found your blog. Your poem is thought provoking. My Dad also recently wrote a poem about death. He wrote it while in the ER being evaluated (for 24 hours) for chest pains.

You have to be a good writer to write a raelationship death poem and for it not to be awfully bad

And Billy Graham is still himself, too, I see.

How wood my life be if you weren’t around
doing your trimming and hedging your bets?
There is a man out there just waiting to have
his life ruined, and all you can think about is death?
Oh, go ahead. Make a shelf outta me!
They’re useful. Lay it on.

I really like this poem. Mine revolve around nostalgia and loss, domestic sadnesses, but yours are slightly darker, as you state it. And I like it.
Everyone needs a bit of darkness. Like babies who keep their eyes closed for so long, we need some darkness to rest and just be.

Thank you for reading my poems and your comments. There are two kinds of death I live with, physical death and relationship death (both are very real to me). It has caused me to ask real questions and be a seeker of life. Encouraging to find another on the journey. May comfort and peace be yours today.
