Let Your Wheat Flags Fly

Have I mentioned how much I like wheat products?  Bread, crackers, cereal, more bread. Lately, my diet has consisted of light sourdough bread, plain or toasted with spray butter, and oranges. I did have protein yesterday.

  1. I once went on the famous no-carb diet. I lost six pound the first two weeks, and thirty more over the next four months. Sure it was great, but biscuits were calling me night and day. My bed-time cereal bowl stared forlornly at me each evening. Toasting bread, bagels, English muffins, raisen bread and – yes – even melba toast called out to me from the grocery aisles.

    I caved.

I’m a wheat and carbo addict. It’s either cold turkey and slim – or hot biscuits and – ummm… chunky.

Is there a twelve step program for that doesn’t involve religion and apologies?

    Does medication help? 😉

  2. Patrice,

I love it when I find someone else who lives in my world.

I could do an all-carb diet, but not a no-carb diet. Slim Fast: forget it. Screw 12-steps, apologies, and self-hatred. Weight Watchers has worked for me.

Sadly, I have found medication to be an ineffective method of weight loss/control. The only medication I’ve ever tried is Dexitrim when I was in high school but it’s an “upper” and just made me an even more nervous sort. I think I was twitching from all the stuff they put in those pills. My brother got pills from the doctor and he lost weight but as soon as he stopped taking them, he gained the weight back.

    I like our dialogue!
